Knowing Basketball

Good afternoon dear readers, one more week starting and hope you’re all well. Today's post will be more knowing, we will know a little more of this modality.

Let's start?

A little of history

In 1891, the harsh, long winter of Massachusetts made outdoor sports impossible. They had few physical activity options indoors and so students had to practice gymnastics and that made them bored. The director of Springfield College, an international college of the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA), Luther Halsey Gullick, convened Canadian professor James Naismith and gave the mission of thinking about some non-violent game that encouraged students in the winter and also could be practiced in summer in open areas.

At first James had a bit of trouble and thought about giving up, but something was holding him back. So he began to think about how the game would happen, what kinds of instruments it would use, and what the rules would be.

It was then that in December 1981 had the first basketball game in school and after approval of the board of directors of Springfield College, the first official basketball game was at the Armory Story Hill gym on March 11, 1982, where students played against the teachers by the score of 5 to 1, in the presence of 200 people.

Rules

The goal of basketball is to insert the ball into the basket corresponding to your team. There are two baskets at each end of the block at 3.05 meters from the ground. The place where the basket is is called the table.

The team that scores the most points wins. The points vary according to the pitching location. For free throw a point is added, otherwise two points are added to the board. There are still, the points made when the players are close to the line of three, so three points are counted.

The game is divided in 4 times, being 10 minutes for each. It is based on beats, ball passes and defense and attack positions. The ball passes can be: pass with the hand, pass of chest, pass chopped, pass of shoulder and pass over the head.

The most used pitches are the tray and the jump. The calls "buried" occur by means of a jump and the placement of the ball in the basket. Players can’t take more than three steps with the ball in their hands. Prior to that, he should move on to the team partner.

Failures

In basketball, the player can’t receive more than 5 fouls. If that happens, he's out of the game. Fouls can be committed when the player takes more than two steps without bouncing the ball.

He can’t remain more than 5 seconds with the ball in his hands. This makes basketball a very dynamic game. In the area called "carafe" players can’t remain for more than 3 seconds.

Aggressions between the players are considered fouls and still, if leaning on the arms or hands of the opponent that is with the ball.

Players

Basketball is played between two teams of 5 players each. They’re classified in shipowners (bases), ends and poles (pivots).

This will depend on the player's position and goals in the development of the game. The owners are located in the center of the court and therefore are the "head" of the team. The extremes, as the name implies, are those that are close to the lateral lines. The pivots are responsible for most of the ball pitches.

Usually, the poles are bigger and more agile players of the team. They also do the rebound of the balls, that is, they recover the ball after the throw.

Basketball block

Basketball can be played on a closed court, or even outdoors. The dimensions are 28 meters long by 15 meters wide. At the very least it has a compliance of 26 meters by 14 meters wide.

The block represents several lines and markings:

• Side lines: delimit the space in the game;

• Limits: also delimit the space in the game, however, are located behind the baskets;

• Center line: located right in the middle of the court, it divides the total space into two equals;

• Center circle: above the center line is a circle drawn right in the middle of the court that is about 3.6 meters in diameter;

• 3-point line: circular line located 6.7 meters from each basket. It receives this name because the bids of this place are worth 3 points;

• Free throw line: located closer to the basket and front way players throw the ball.
