Judô Championship happens here in Brazil. So let's see what happened at the finals.

"For the third day of competition of the 38th WMC Judo, Brazil was once again the master of the mats at the 38th World Judo Military Championship, which ended in Rio de Janeiro.Brazil closed the World Military Championship with ten golds and seven bronzes as on the last day, Eduardo Yudy, Rafael Macedo, Samanta Soares and Maria Suelen Altheman climbed on the first step of the podium.

Eduardo Santos Yudy (-81kg) faced the Russian Alan Khubetsov, currently ranked 5th of the IJF Ranking. The match was intense, with both athletes taking together a punishment by lack of combativity. In the final half, Khubetsov entered twice with danger, but Yudy with a waza-ari was the one who opened the count. Thirty seconds before the end, the Russian went all-out, took another punishment for the Brazilian, but Yudy counterattacked on an inning of the Russian and put the Russian back on the mat to secure the golden ippon."

"Maria Suelen Altheman (+ 78kg) also faced a strong rival, the French Julia Tolofua, defeated two days earlier by the Brazilian in the fight that gave the country the gold in the women’s team event. The Brazilian went ahead with a waza-ari after one minute. The match was balanced until Maria Suellen got the perfect opportunity to beat Tolofua again and become the new Military World Champion of the +78kg category. Samanta Soares (-78kg) defeated the Russian Aleksandra Babintseva, currently ranked 21st of the IJF Ranking, two positions ahead of the Brazilian. The dispute was very fierce and frank, with the Russian coming to uproot the top of the judogi of Samanta twice. The Brazilian almost claimed gold with a foot technique in the final seconds of normal time, but without success.

In the Golden Score, the Brazilian made one mistake in the footprint, generating the second punishment, against one for Babintseva. Aware of this, the Russian increased the pace, but it was the Brazilian who, again with her foot technique, almost scored. In the sequence, the Russian took a second punishment. Arriving in the third minute of the extra time, both athletes were exhausted. Babintseva exaggerated in defence and took a third punishment allowing the Brazilian to grab the most dramatic gold of the day."
