In order to practice taekwondo, no objects are used, but only the body itself. However, some accessories, such as helmets and mouth guards, are recommended to ensure the protection of risk regions of fighter bodies. It is a form of struggle that prioritizes the execution of kicks on the use of the fists. The International Taekwondo Federation is the global entity responsible for organizing and overseeing major events and maintaining rules.

The performance of a taekwondo fighter is measured and indicated according to a color scheme of stripes worn on his clothing. This system is divided in two ways: first in gubs and then in dans. Graduations of gub tracks are a sequence of colors and combinations, while gradations of dans are variations of the black belt. The following order of the gubs tracks follows:

  • White

  • White with yellow tip

  • Yellow with green tip

  • Green

  • Green with blue tip

  • Blue

  • Blue with red tip

  • Red with black tip

  • Black

Rules of Taekwondo

  • According to the WTF, Worldwide Taekwondo Federation, the battles vary in length, according to the level of graduation achieved by the fighter. For the black belts, the fight lasts for 6 minutes, being divided in three rounds of 2 minutes. For colored fighters, the fight lasts for 3 minutes and is divided into two rounds of a minute and a half.

  • The dice blows accumulate points for the fighter to make them. A kick given chest is worth 1 point; a spinning kick in the chest, in turn, is worth 2 points; a kick in the head is worth 3 points and a spinning kick in the head, 4 points.

  • If one of the fighters manages to knock out his opponent, he is considered the winner of the match.
