Knowing Archery



Good afternoon dear readers, how is your week being? I hope you're doing great! Today we have one more knowing, and knowing is about archery. Come to know a little about this modality!

The sport of Archery arose in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The first sign of a tournament of this sport occurred in 1673 in Yorkshire. In 1990 the Archery was inserted in the Olympic Games, but until 1972 the sport didn’t have the notoriety due. In the same year the International Archery Federation demanded the adoption of rules of the sport, thus favoring the promotion and strengthening of the sport. Before, in antiquity, the archery was used as a hunting tool.


USED ​​EQUIPMENTS


The equipment used for the practice of archery, can be: recurved bow and composite bow and arrow and target.

Recurve bow is allowed in the Olympic Games, consisting of handle, rope and blades, plus stabilizer and sight.

Composite Arc was only developed in the year 1970, with the goal of being faster and lighter without the need for much effort.

All two models are made with materials such as wood, carbon and handmade.

The arrow is a rigid rod with a thin point and perforating material. At the other end it has a stabilizing material, also called feathers. They are allocated in the shape of a U, known as nock, and where the arrow is held in the rope.

The target is developed from synthetic materials (Tyvek) or paper. The format is round and consists of a large diagram with circles in the graduation of 10 to 6 starting from the center, in the yellow colors indicating 10 and 9 points, red indicating 8 and 7 points and blue indicating 6 points. In outdoor mode, the target consists of rings of 5 to 1, in blue color 5 points, black 4 and 3 points and white 2 and 1 points.



RULES


The athletes can choose between the two types of bow in the competitions of the (International Archery Federation). Recalling that in the Olympic Games, only recurve bows can be used.


INDOOR BALL SHOT COMPETITION


In indoor environments, the archer is 18 meters from the target. Shoot 10 sets of 3 shots each in two rounds. In the end the score achieved in the 60 shots is added and the total obtained defines the classification of each athlete in the competition.


OUTDOOR ARC SHOT COMPETITION


In outdoor competitions, the target is 30, 50, 60 and 70 meters distances (women's match) and 30, 50, 70 and 90 meters (men's match). All archers make three sets of 12 shots at each of the distances, totaling 144 shots.


OLYMPIC GAMES


In the Olympic modality, 64 athletes participate in the dispute. An initial round is played with the target 70 meters away, in six rounds of 12 rounds each. After completing 72 shots the archers are ranked from 1 to 64, according to the total accumulated points. The best placed in the first round faces the worst score, the second faces the 63rd and so on. The two archers compete for up to 5 sets. In each set, each athlete makes three shots. The one who scores the highest score wins the set and scores 2 points. If both ends the set tied, each one receives a point. The archer who accumulates six points wins the confrontation and moves on to the next phase. The loser is eliminated from the competition. To win the gold medal, the archer must win six stages (64 rounds, 32 rounds, eighth-finals, quarter-finals, semifinal and final). The two archers eliminated in the semifinals dispute the bronze.
