Soldier's Day

Good evening dear readers! I wish you a great week and hope everything is fine. Today's post is an extra and different subject; let's talk about Soldier's Day here in Brazil that is celebrated on August 25th. Hope you like it.

Let's start?

In Brazil, on August 25th, we celebrate the Soldier’s Day. This date was chosen to celebrate the date of birth of Luis Alves de Lima e Silva, aka “Duque de Caxias”. Hes was born on August 25th, 1803 and he was considered Patron of the Brazilian Army, thus having his date of birth eternalized.

You must be wondering who “Duque de Caxias” was, right? I will answer that question now. Luis Alves was born on a farm in Rio de Janeiro, heir to a family of the Portuguese military aristocracy. His father served the Portuguese army in Brazil. When Brazil became independent (September 7th, 1822) and adopted the imperial model of government, military forces also began to undergo a transformation.

In the year 1841 Caxias received his first nobiliárquico title, the one of Barão de Caxias, that makes reference to a city of Maranhão (one of the Brazilian states) called Caxias, where the imperial army obtained many victories. Throughout its reign, Caxias had its position of noble high to count, that passed to Marquess and, finally, Duke.

He has been appointed commander-in-chief of the Army in Operations. “Duque de Caxias” died in 1878 and to this day has his memory remembered not only on the Day of the Soldier, but also in various rituals and ceremonies of the Brazilian Army.

August 25th, besides being used to honor Caxias, is also used to honor all Brazilian soldiers (as its name says - Soldier's Day). Besides the Brazilian army, there are soldiers serving the Brazilian Navy and the Brazilian Air Force, as well as the soldiers of the fire department. All of them with important roles for the armed forces and for the security of the country.

Dear readers, this was the post today and I thought it was cool to bring some of the history of that day so that you could get to know a little more about Brazil. I really liked this post and hope you have enjoyed it too. It is always good to present new things from our country to anyone who is out or even to who is from here and still does not know the reason for choosing this date. Congratulations to all the soldiers for the date! Today's post is over and next week we are waiting for you here. Bye !!
